Demonstration Landcare Trail
A landcare demonstration trail showcases past and current restoration techniques in degraded wetland and bushland areas of Bibra Lake. Group tours are available and the tour is particularly informative for TAFE and university students, community groups, local and State government officers, teachers and other bushland/wetland practitioners. Our Centre is a practising landcare organisation working at the grassroots level and the tour covers areas dating back to 1993.
We can provide an introductory talk and field trip including nursery practices, sustainable seed production, useful tools and equipment along with a visit to restoration sites encompassing wetland, dryland and transitional zones.
Topics covered include:
- baseline studies
- site preparation
- revegetation plans and techniques
- ongoing maintenance
- zonation within wetlands and how this affects the timing, frequency,
duration and type of technique - monitoring and evaluation as a basis for adaptive management techniques
- community involvement/education
- funding and maintaining projects beyond the terms of funding
Interested parties should allow 2-3 hours for the tour and bookings can be arranged by contacting the Wetlands Officer, Denise Crosbie, on (08) 9417 8460
