The Cockburn Wetlands Education Centre is dedicated to on-ground restoration and management for the conservation of our remaining wetlands, their wildlife and the well being of our community. More than 75% of wetlands on the Swan Coastal Plain have been cleared or drained. Those that remain provide vital habitat for our wildlife. The Centre provides learning programs on the importance of wetlands and their habitats.
Volunteers implement much of the work, although the Centre employs a full time officer to coordinate the activities of the Centre. This enables a tripling of on-ground delivery efforts. The continuity of staff members is cost effective as it ensures knowledge and skills are retained and built upon, rather than continually lost and relearned. The Centre's delivery efforts are maximised when we employ 2 fulltime staff members; we currently employ 1.3 staff. The Centre does not receive any direct funding from the State or Federal government. Numerous grants provide consumables or capital infrastructure but few grants support essential salaries. Assistance in this area is gratefully appreciated.
Major sponsors are acknowledged on the sponsors boards at the Centre, in the Centre's publications, on the Centre's website, on stationery footers and the back of business cards. Sponsors also receive certain privileges such as free use of the Centre for official functions, invitations to major events and information about the Centre's activities. Sponsors are welcome to negotiate corporate days for staff and families such as planting events or evening frog walks for their organisation.
The cost of becoming a sponsor is an annual contribution of at least $3,000 for a minimum of three years. If you are interested in discussing sponsorship options with the Wetlands Officer, Denise Crosbie, please contact her by phone on (08) 9417 8460.
